A Note
I know this post isn’t quite ‘shaving’ but is definitely in the same realm so I’ve tagged it ‘shaving’ for better discovery.
Preface
As I’ve aged, I’ve gotten hairier. Particularly my nose and ears. This, annoyingly, is a fairly common feature of age in humans. I’ve also been trying to move away from electrified devices for things like personal grooming.
This poses a bit of a conundrum as most everything related to grooming is electric. Especially things meant for individual and/or home use. Hell, even barber and stylist kit is very electrical these days except for maybe scissors and even then a comb + hair clipper combo can do the job of traditional scissors.
Thankfully there is a reasonable option available and it’s not overly expensive (read: affordable to us normies), works well and I can definitely recommend if you need a nose/ear hair trimmer.
The best part is it’s non-electric, quiet and made of metal so it can be recycled if it wears out.
The Royal Hair Trimmer
The Royal Hair Trimmer is designed to tame nose and ear hair. It does a fantastic job at this task and if you poke around the internet you’ll find a lot of reviews that make it clear this is a good device. I found out about the device via Aftermath and didn’t hesitate to purchase one after reading their review.
Royal offers a few models and I chose to go with a model that can be operated one handed. Unfortunately you cannot buy direct from their site but the devices are available from a few retailers. To see the official site’s offerings, click here and if you’d like to buy, their Amazon store page is a reasonable place to start.
The ET-4 model (what I own) is a simple device that is comprised of a tube, cutters that spin inside the tube and a squeeze ’trigger’ that makes the cutters rotate within the tube. It’s a painfully simple device overall and I really can’t say much more as this device is actually simple. It’s also ambidextrous. I’ve used it left and right handed without problem.
It does work. Just as well as any other trimmer without the need for batteries, wires, loud motors or any other bullshit that needlessly complicates a simple task. It doesn’t work as good as plucking individual hairs with tweezers or waxing but I feel this is a compromise most humans are more than willing to make. Especially given tweezing and waxing your nose/ears is a painful process for most folk.
The device is also as small as reasonably possible and I can fit it into my standard dopp kit which I intentionally keep as small, minimalist and utilitarian as possible.
Final Thoughts
The Royal Hair Trimmer is something of a ‘perfect’ nose/ear hair trimmer. It’s an affordable, simple, functional design that Just Works and doesn’t over complicate the simple task of chopping nose/ear hair down to a non-problematic length.
The only reasons I can think of for not using a Royal Hair Trimmer are health related. Parkinson’s, extreme tendonitis, extreme carpel tunnel, etc would all be potentially problematic with this device. Yes, it doesn’t take much force to trigger but I’ve know enough humans with extreme accessibility needs in their hands to know this could be an issue. However, given the price, it may be worth a try regardless.
